Is it really suitable the lame question: “What do you do in life?” (Edited)

When I was taking my classes related to Sustainable Agriculture, I experienced an awkward moment in a break time: The Professor  walked through my direction and asked me “What do you do in life?”.

I have to admit that, this particular question is not well-received in my mind in these last months. Because I find kind of hard to explain it. Even if I take around three minutes of my life to create a proper answer.

The case is I said to him: “Well, I am chemical engineer”. He immediately opened his eyes like a scared dog (Maybe the scared one was me!). He was really surprised about the fact that a chemical engineer is studying Sustainable Agriculture and Soil Biology, but the only thing he could add to his futile look was: “Well, it’s your money not mine”.

In such awkward moments I like to remind myself those quotes that light up the reasons why I am doing what I am doing. In that particular moment, I thought about that quote of the author Zig Ziglar: “Don’t listen to people who tell you what to do. Listen to people who encourage you to do what you know in your heart is right.”

Most people try to understand other’s decisions just based in that question. I really think in life is more that “doing”. It is more about living it by creating our own path. But, unfortunately, education system has made us to believe if we want to be “successful” in life we have to live by doing the same things that other people do. Schools are killing the creative living and our desire of pursuing our real life.

That’s why I’ve decided in the near future that each time I am been asked about what I do in life I will just say “Living it… What else could I do?”; instead of trying to create rational explanations of why I’ve taken some decisions based on my personal goals.

I will do the same to others. I will stop asking such empty question that is just used to full lame conversations. From now on I will use “What are you creating now to pursue your own path?”. Perhaps with this one it will create an interesting debate about “the nonsense I am asking about” (It wouldn’t be the first time actually!).

To kill this writing, my main message is trying to think wisely before ask empty questions to full conversations if you’re not sure how to answer them yourself in first place.

We’re not here to make a living, or earn a place here in this place. We’re here to create and integrate it in our planet by pursuing our own path without being selfish!!

The reason why I chose Catharsis as my blog’s name

Writing to me is an exercise that allows me to release most of my feelings and continue living…

But the author of the following painting and poem describes better than I do:

Our emotions run high…
They’ll consume us, if you let them…
Anger and jealousy
Spinning out of control

Purge bad emotions
Any way that you can…
Take the weight off your shoulders
And leave it behind

Once you have done this,
Move on with your life…
And use your time
For kindness and love…

The so-called: “You have to step out of your comfort zone”- That’s cliché Dude!

I’ve spent many hours of my life reading different articles and books about how stepping out of your comfort zone and surviving in the meantime.

I thought if I had read enough material about that topic, I could encourage myself to hit the road to the unknown. But now when I finally did it after almost a year, I could realize this process is so personal that you cannot allow other people, no matter how expert they clam to be, to tell you when or how is the exact moment to take the leap and jump into the jungle.

It is not about every time you feel confident about your life, you have to run to new reckless adventures just to see what is going to happen with your destiny; nor every time you feel safe and happy with someone you have to break up with them.

My only good advice I can give you about the so-called “You have to stop being in your comfort zone” is having a good plan since, as I’ve lived so far, is not easy whatsoever. There are moments you want to quit being uncomfy. There are even days you desire to come back the day you were in your past life, feeling pathetic (Maybe sad) but safe.! (Kind of easy to go back in time ah?).

Notwithstanding, there will be people who will demand and ask you all the time (Trust me, They will!) about your decisions and how are you getting through all the hard moments, you have to stay focus on what you say to yourself that you really want in life.

It is not about being comfy or not. If you really love what you do: Why has to be uncomfortable to do it all the time? It really makes no sense. As everything that is really valuable in life, we have to spend some time in our learning curve to learn and grow enough and reach to the top of our goals.

And finally I want to resume all the “mature words” written so far:

1) Plan what you really want to do in life.

2) Set your own Success Metrics or Criteria. (Try not to set “Uncomfy Level as one of them).

3) Be determined even though you have to change your plan a little bit.

4) People’s comments that are not worth listening carefully consider them as useless noise.

5) Stay focus on your GOAL all the time!!.

Remember you are the only one who can write your own destiny with your unique patterns!

¿Para qué sirve ser colombiano?

Palabraseca

Sunny Walking on Sunday? Nooo on Tuesday….

I have this assignment of writing about why studying abroad will change my life forever…. Yesterday I was trying to squeeze every idea of my mind to write a decent essay, I’ve realized that all my bragging about “Of course I want to get of Colombia, make my life abroad and make my country proud and known more beyond great weed, big butt women and Shakira” wasn’t going to be good enough and my messy room wasn’t really inspiring for me anymore. So I decided to walk around and getting myself immersed in this tropical culture I don’t love so much… But that’s part of who I am….

So I woke up early in the morning, eager to take a really cold shower….. Big surprise… Carnival Season and no water supply, it was really frustrating, because cold water really helps me to relaxed and be more awake. Despite this little incident I decided to go out anyways I didn’t smell that bad.

So with my mobile which is like a walkman and camera for me (good friend I guess) I went to street decided to get inspiration of why I have to get out of this country, but I found were reasons to get back. It really sounds ironic coming from me, but see how people with basic needs unfulfilled really smile at life, how despite all wrong conditions around them they can wake up everyday to work and get the money for their subsistence. It was really amazing for me to see that, by and large I ignore that but today I was focus on those living experiences. Even I bought this fruit salad in this informal stand, where this guy like a college university they took his sales account really seriously. I’ve never enjoyed such street fruit salad like today.

I could see how wrong I was, there are ton of reasons to get back to help to solve these issues, make people notice there are human being sleeping in streets ( like I saw today) who are maybe more aware about real and essential things than most of us.

We are so immersed in this killing routine that we avoid to socialize each other, we just jump above people to get the first line in the bus or the last food can in the supermarket. And then we brag ourselves about how good people we are, attending at church on sundays, please don’t give wrong, I used to be christian, attending every sunday at church, serving in a young christian group, preaching at them, but when it is just religion, becomes an automatic routine and stop living on your own but for others.

It was a really sunny day, which I could smell the sun arome (Is that make any sense?)… I could communicate with subsistence entrepreneurs…

Definitely it is not about just leaving and never look back, it is about learning, getting the skills you need abroad… in other words… catching higher butterflies in greener places… Like that Chinese Proverb says “the flapping of a butterfly’s wings can be felt across the world”

We are one with the Universe, but in the moment we believe ourselves as individuals everything will start to go wrong…

Abundance is everything and nothing at the same time, being wealthy is just having money…

Best Fruit Salad Ever!
